In 2011 I undertook a blog project to attempt one new craft per week. I called this project 50 First Crafts. The project brought wonderful new skills into my life and connected me with people who are passionate about creativity. The entire blog is available to read here.
Since 2020 I have been exploring wild basketry — the art of making baskets using wild foraged plants. In central North Carolina those plants include invasives such as wisteria, ivy, kudzu, and daylily, and garden plants like daffodils and crocosmia. I work with the occasional native pine needle or grass, but I like to focus my work on commonly available invasive species. You can see my wild basketry on my Instagram and Threads pages.
